In her own words, WNBC News Producer Angela Grande '05 discusses her experiences at Utica College and how they prepared her for a journalism career in the country's top market.
Utica College has played a very important role in my success. Being a Utica native, I was able to follow my dream of working in the broadcast journalism field, while remaining in the place that I will always call home. My professors believed in me, challenged me, and provided me with personal attention that would not be possible in a larger school.
I was one of Professor Chanatry's very first students at UC. I watched him introduce television and radio classes to the already successful program. It started with a couple of cameras, an editing machine, and a whole lot of creativity. I'm amazed by how much the program has grown in the past ten years since I graduated. Students now have an environment that will prepare them for life in a real newsroom, control room, and television studio. I'm excited to see how much more this will grow in the years ahead.
As a TV news producer for WNBC I find myself using many of the lessons I was taught during my years at UC. The writing advice, the push to be aggressive, and most importantly - the confidence that I can succeed in such a competitive business. All of that was given to me at Utica College. To this day, I remain in close contact with professors, whom I now call friends.
The success of UC's broadcast journalism program is important to me. I am excited for students who will follow in my footsteps, and who will someday be my colleagues in the #1 market.
