Utica University, Queens University Professors to Discuss Medical Aid in Dying

Medical aid in dying has become a prominent issue throughout the country in recent years. Christopher Riddle, professor of philosophy at Utica University, will be a featured speaker at ‘A Dialogue on Medical Aid in Dying: Disability Rights Perspective,’ where concerns raised by those in the disability rights community, both for and against proposed legislation, will be addressed.
Jerome Bickenbach, emeritus professor and Queen’s research chair at Queen’s University, Canada, will also be a featured speaker at the event.
“We explore reasons for and against this legislation, as well as the practice more generally,” Riddle said regarding New York’s proposed Medical Aid in Dying Act.
The discussion will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Boehlert Conference Room. Attendees will learn more about the state’s proposed legislation and have the opportunity to hear in-depth analysis of its benefits, as well as its downfalls. If passed, New York will join just five other states - California, Montana, Oregon, Vermont and Washington - with legalized physician- assisted dying.
