To register a game console or many other devices, you will need to know the device's MAC Address, which is made up of letters and numbers and is in some variation of one of these formats: 12:AB:34:CD:56:EF, 12-AB-34-CD-56-EF or 12AB34CD56EF. Please follow the instructions below to find the MAC address of your game console or other device. Please make sure you record this information before you return to the Self-Registration page as you will need it to complete registration. If your game console or device has an Internet Browser, you may be able to complete the registration through the registration website.

Note: Unless otherwise directed, you must have the game console or device powered up and have already gone through the initial setup before you will be able to get the required information needed for registration.

What is a Mac Address?

A MAC Address, or Mac Address, stands for "Media Access Control Address" and is a unique identifier assigned to the network interface on a device for communication on the network. It can also be called the NIC Address (for Network Interface Card), the EHA (Ethernet Hardware Address), Hardware Address, or Physical Address.

DISCLAIMER: The directions on this page are provided as is and have been tested to the best of Utica College's ability. Utica College is unable to test every device and adapt to every possible firmware or OS variation for each device. If these instructions for your device do not work for you, please consult the manufacturer of said device for further assistance in finding your Mac Address. Microsoft

Xbox 360
Note: You must either have the Ethernet cable connected or, if available, be connected to the wireless network, before you will have the ability to see your Mac Address. Also, if your Xbox 360 has both a wired and wireless connection, your Mac Address will be the same for both connections. If you added a wireless adapter to an older model, they may be different.
  1. Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard and select Network Settings.
  2. Select Edit Settings.
  3. Select "Configure Network".
  4. From the Configure Network Screen, click on the "Additional Settings" from the top right menu.
  5. Select Advanced Settings.
  6. At the bottom of this screen you'll see a heading called "Wired MAC Address". This is your Mac address and will be in the format "12AB34CD56EF"

Xbox One

If this is your first time turning on the device, you may need to follow this procedure to work around registering the device

  1. Run through the system setup like you normally would, and let it fail.
  2. Select “Fix It” to use the troubleshooter to diagnose the issue, and It will show you the Mac address.

If you have been signed into your profile on the Console.

  1. Select "Settings"
  2. Select "Network"
  3. Select "Advanced Settings"
  4. Here you will see the Wired/wireless MAC Address in the right side of the page. Each of them should be in the format "XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX."

Microsoft Surface Tablet
  1. Swipe your finger from the right edge leftwards to bring up the Charms bar.
  2. Tap on Search, enter “cmd” and open the app. You can also scroll to the right and look for Command Prompt app with a black terminal icon.
  3. Next type in “ipconfig -all” in the command line to retrieve your MAC address.
  4. Then look for your physical address for the network adapter you are trying to register, most likely your wireless adapter.

Windows Phone 7
Note: At this time, this information has not yet been tested. Please let the Help Desk know if this works for you.
  1. Go to the Phone section (as if you were going to make a call)
  2. Enter ##634# and select "Call"
  3. It did not call anything. There should now be a "Diagnosis" option on the top of your screen with a keypad.
  4. Enter *#1234# and call again.
  5. It should bring up a menu that includes the Wi-Fi Mac Address

Windows Phone 8
Note: At this time, this information has not yet been tested. Please let the Help Desk know if this works for you.
  1. In the App list, tap Settings
  2. Tap About
  3. Tap on More info, and then note the MAC address.

Xbox
  1. Turn on your Xbox console with no game disc in the disc tray.
  2. OPTIONAL: You might need to insert your Live DVD into the disk tray. This will update your Xbox with the Xbox Live option. After doing this step you must eject the DVD and restart your Xbox.
  3. From the Xbox Dashboard, choose "Xbox Live". Or, play a game on your Xbox Live Starter Kit disc and choose the option for Xbox Live play.
  4. From the Connect Status screen, select Settings.
  5. The Mac address is the 12-digit number at the bottom-right corner of the Network Settings screen.

Sony

PlayStation 3
  1. Turn on your Playstation 3 without any disk in the drive and wait for the Main Menu to come up.
  2. Navigate to the "Settings" icon (located on the far left).
  3. Select "System Settings".
  4. Select "System Information".
  5. Your MAC Address will be displayed here in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF"

PlayStation 4
  1. Turn on your Playstation 4 without any disk in the drive and wait for the Main Menu to come up.
  2. Navigate to the "Settings" icon (located on the far left).
  3. Select the "System" icon under the Settings menu.
  4. Select "System Information."
  5. Your MAC Address will be displayed here in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF"

  1. From the Main Menu select "Settings".
  2. Select "System Settings".
  3. Select "System Information".
  4. Your MAC Address will be displayed here in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF"

  1. From the home screen, select "Settings".
  2. Select "System".
  3. Select "System Information".
  4. Your MAC Address will be displayed here in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF"

PlayStation2
Note:To find the MAC address of your Sony PlayStation 2 you will need the Network Adapter connected to the PS2 and you will need the disc that came with the Network Adapter. Then follow these steps:
  1. Power up the PlayStation 2 and load the Network Adapter Startup Disc.
  2. Once it has loaded, select "ISP Setup" and press X on your controller.
  3. The ISP Setup will begin to load, and you will be presented with a license agreement. Select Agree and press X to continue.
  4. For connection type, choose "Local Area Network (LAN)" and press X to continue.
  5. Select "Automatic Configuration" and press X to continue.
  6. At the connection test screen, select "Advanced" and press X to continue.
  7. At the "Advanced Broadband Settings" screen, make sure "Automatic" is selected. While you are at this screen, make note of the MAC address at the bottom.
    Note: Some PS2 games also have the ability to list your MAC address, but the above steps are the Help Desk's preferred way of finding the MAC.

iPhone
  1. On the iPhone home screen, tap the "Settings" icon.
  2. Select the "General" menu.
  3. Click on the "About" menu selection.
  4. Scroll down to Wi-Fi Address. This is your Mac Address in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF".

  1. On the iPad home screen, tap the "Settings" icon.
  2. Select the "General" option from left side menu.
  3. Select the "About" option on the right side menu.
  4. Scroll down to Wi-Fi Address. This is your Mac Address in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF".

iPod Touch
  1. On the iPod Touch home screen, tap on the "Settings" icon.
  2. Select the "General" menu.
  3. Click on the "About" menu selection.
  4. Scroll down to Wi-Fi Address. This is your Mac Address in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF".

Wii U
  1. From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings."
  2. Using the Left Stick select the "Internet" icon and press the A Button.
  3. Select "View MAC Address" and wait a moment for the MAC address to be displayed.
  4. When you are finished, tap "Back."

  1. From the Menu, select "System Settings"
  2. Go to "Internet Settings"
  3. Go to the "Other Information" and then "Confirm MAC Address"

  1. Select "System Settings" from the Home menu.
  2. Scroll down through the menu and select "Internet"
  3. The MAC addess is listed under "System MAC Address", which appears beneath the Connection Status section.

Note: Use of Built in Wi-Fi connection is no longer supported, to connect you will need the optional LAN adapter for the Nintendo Wii.

Using USB Adapter Connection

Note: To use the Wired connection, you first must purchase the Nintendo Wii LAN Adapter. The MAC address should be written on the side of the adapter. If the MAC address is not clearly visible, follow these instructions:
  1. From the Home screen, Wii Channel Menu, or the"main menu", select the "Wii Options" button on the lower left side.
  2. Select Wii Settings
  3. Select the arrow on the right side of the screen.
  4. Select Internet.
  5. Select Console Information.
  6. The MAC address will then appear on the screen under the title USB Ethernet Adapter Mac Address in the format "12-AB-34-CD-56-EF"

Android Phone
  1. Click on the Home button at the bottom of the phone to go to the Home screen.
  2. Click Menu.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click About Phone.
  5. Click Status or Hardware Information
  6. Scroll down to see your "Wi-Fi MAC address". This is your mac address and is in the format "12:AB:34:CD:56:EF".

  1. From a browser tab, enter chrome://system into the URL field.
  2. Press the enter key.
  3. From the ifconfig field, click Expand.
  4. From the wlan0 section, view the Ethernet HWAddr (MAC address).

Home / Home Mini
  1. Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Connect to the Google Home using bluetooth.
  3. Begin the process to connect to Wi-Fi.
  4. After you pick the room you are installing the Google Home in and select a Wi-Fi network, press the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the screen while the Google Home is searching for the network. An option to view your MAC address should appear, and after pressing that option the app should display the address.

BlackBerry Phone
  1. At the Home Screen, press the Menu key below the screen.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Status.
  4. The WLAN MAC field displays the MAC address for the BlackBerry smartphone.

BlackBerry PlayBook
  1. Tap the "Settings" icon on the top right hand corner of the screen.
  2. Click Wi-Fi from the left sidebar.
  3. Click the Wi-Fi icon with a question mark on it, on the bottom left part of the screen.
  4. The WLAN MAC field displays the MAC address for the BlackBerry smartphone

Amazon Fire
  1. Go to "Settings"
  2. Go to "System"
  3. Go to "About"
  4. Go to "Network" to get your Fire's Wi-Fi Mac address.

Amazon Kindle
  1. Go to Settings page in your Kindle, by pressing the Menu button from Home screen.
  2. Use the Kindle's 5-way controller to underline "Settings" and press.
  3. Look for "Device Info" to get your Kindle's Wi-Fi Mac address.

Amazon Echo*
  1. Note that if you had the Echo on a home network previously you'll have to reset it. Wait for it to fail and turn red. Hold the dot button on the top until it resets.
  2. With the Echo reset open the Alexa app on your phone, it'll prompt you to connect to the Echo wifi. Connect and try to pair it with UC_Wireless. It will fail.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the MAC address.
  4. Register the MAC address on the network and attempt the setup process again.

* Note that this process should work on other the Amazon Dot and Tap too, but the reset process may differ.

  1. Go to Settings page in your Nook.
  2. Look under "Device Info" to get your Nook's MAC address.

Smart TVs

Information on Smart TVs

A Smart TV is a television set with integrated Internet and applications. If you intend to use any of the integrated applications, such as Netflix or an integrated browser, you will need to first register the TV as a device. If you will be using them with Wireless, please connect these devices to UC_Wireless as they typically will not support UC_Secure

Note: At this time, we do not have directions for each manufacturer. Please consult the manufacturer's website or any information provided with or on the Television itself.  It is usually listed under the setting menu and may be located in the "About this TV", "General", or "Network".  You may also need to connect to UC_Wireless before the information will be available.

Networked printers (ethernet or wireless) are currently not allowed.  If you bring your own printer you'll need to use a USB cable to connect it to your computer.
